Direct live visualization during procedures allows unwanted structures, such as blood vessels or nerves, to be avoided.
  • No radiation. CT scans and x-rays contain radiation, which is cumulative over one’s lifetime. Additionally, ultrasound is utilized over fluoroscopy (live x-ray) whenever feasible to avoid unnecessary radiation and delay in performing the intervention.
  • No known contraindications. Ultrasound for diagnostic and procedural use has a very high safety profile.
Ultrasound allows treatments to be provided quicker without waiting for expensive tests and results. Additionally, treatments are more accurate and safer and more precise ‘treatments often leads to better results. However, ultrasound is not used at most orthopedic practices.
